Trekking in Nepal >> Mustang Region Trekking >> Around Dhaulagiri (25 Days) with thapa pass and French pass

Dhaulagiri TrekkingThe remote western aspect of Dhaulagiri provides some of the most demanding trekking in Nepal. The trails can be difficult, following glaciers and crossing high snow-covered passes which present a challenge suited only to fit individuals wishing to take on an adventure of a lifetime. Following two days in the fascinating city of Kathmandu, we fly to Pokhara and head to Baglung, the starting point of the trek, in the Kali Ghandaki valley. The first few days are spent gaining altitude, through lush terraced hillsides, passing many villages, before ascending to wild and rugged terrain west of Dhaulagiri (8167m).

The route leads through magnificent gorges and then follows the Chhonbardan glacier to the North Dhaulagiri Base Camp. From here we ascend to the French Pass (5360m) and enter the Hidden Valley where there are superb mountain views of Sita Chuchura and the Mukut Himal. After exploration of the area we cross the Thapa Pass (5250m) and enjoy magnificent views of Annapurna 1 on the opposite side of the Kali Ghandaki river valley. From the pass there is a long and very steep descent to the village of Marpha, the first habitation for many days, from where we trek along the popular Jomsom trail to Baglung. From here we drive to Pokhara and relax by the lakeside before returning to Kathmandu.
